Casserole Week started on Friday beginning Oct. 7th and runs until Saturday the 15th.
It’s casserole week in Navarra, and if you’re thinking of the unimaginative and tiring casseroles your
mom used to make, you can just forget about it. Navarra doesn’t do anything
simple, not with cuisine anyway. How else would it be considered one of the
culinary capitals of Spain?
Casserole Week started on Friday beginning Oct. 7th and runs until Saturday the
15th. Casseroles are presented, as in previous years, accompanied and paired
with a wine from Navarra at bars around the region.
In this tenth year, 37 establishments have registered to submit one or two casseroles
in the competition.
Jury members are coordinated by the Gazteluleku Gastronomic Society, which will
taste the pan to distinguish those that stand out for their greatest
gastronomic qualities. This is an incentive to increase the quality of dishes
in Navarra.
After the success of previous years, this year will again provide the marriage
of the pan with the wines of Navarra, so that, together with the name of the
pan (or pans), we recommend a wine from Navarra that pairs perfectly with the dish.
Something new this year, the Council of the Designation of Origin Navarra is
providing a prize for “the best bar to try wine.” For, that a special
jury composed of experts will visit bars anonymously.
Anyone wishing to participate in the casserole and wine pairing adventures can
visit the bars – they are noted, with their wine pairings below. It is just two euros to try a casserole and
another 2 euros for the wine pairing.
Just another fun event that
Navarra puts on …..
When you finally decide
to visit, you are sure to have a good deal of wine events to choose from!
