Autochthonous white variety, originating in Aragon, present in some Spanish Mediterranean regions and in the South of France. In Navarre it is barely present although, in the last few years, some vineyards have been planted. It is best grown in the warmer areas.
The Garnacha Blanca wines usually have a high alcohol by volume content, due to their high sugar content, slight acidity and exceedingly original aromas. In some regions it is used as a complement in "coupage" or blended wines or to make natural, sweet wines. In Navarre some very interesting examples of young wines have been produced.
